متن کاملDeceleration of supersonic beams using inhomogeneous electric and magnetic fields.
Methods for the production of cold atomic and molecular samples relying on the deceleration of pulsed supersonic beams are described and a review of the corresponding literature is presented. These methods include multistage Stark deceleration, multistage Zeeman deceleration, and Rydberg-Stark deceleration. Recent applications of the cold samples produced with these techniques are summarized.
متن کاملSlowing Continuous Molecular Beams in a Rotating Spiral
Developments of the past decades in cold-atom physics have motivated molecular physicists to also venture into temperature domains below 1 kelvin [1, 2]. Inherently, molecular interactions are more complex than those between atoms, and the study of cold molecules opens up a plethora of new research areas in, e.g., quantum computation or molecular spectroscopy and scattering. However, the comple...
متن کاملX. Molecular Beams*
Three kinds of research are pursued in the molecular beam laboratory: 1. High-precision studies of atomic and molecular hyperfine structure, an example being the recent discovery and measurement of an octopole interaction in the bromine atom. 2. The development of atomic frequency standards by using atomic and molecularbeam techniques. The carbon monoxide electric resonance studies and the ammo...
متن کاملAlternate gradient focusing and deceleration of a molecular beam.
Neutral dipolar molecules can be decelerated and trapped using time-varying inhomogeneous electric fields. This has been demonstrated only for molecules in low-field seeking states, but can, in principle, be performed on molecules in high-field seeking states as well. Transverse stability is then much more difficult to obtain, however, since molecules in high-field seeking states always experie...
